No thanks, it is a pleasure to meet so many like minded people.
Something about not feeling the only nut on this planet anymore....;-))

I have been pondering about this.
IMO we have now 4 info sources on the Net, in chronological order:
1) individual pages, with increased interlinking
2) IR FAQ
3) this list
4) the list archives
The sequential search for info in a perfect world should be:
1) IR FAQ
2) list archives
3) list
About the FAQ: I sent the keeper/maintainer (Rui Pedro ?) a note
about this list, but haven't seen his subscription yet. In the past,
I did send some corrections and additions to the initial author (is
not the current keeper). Not sure if she(!) is on the list, but I
believe not. But I believe the reason for creating it at that time
was to collect all info she found and received as a starter in IR.
Not a bad attempt either, au contraire, but I am not sure about the
current efforts to keep the FAQ updated (have any of you the last
update date at hand?).
My first priority is making sure this list's archiving system will
work in future, not sure if my provider is willing to store huge
amounts of them. Not sure either whether the current structure is
very search friendly. Anyone fiddled around with this option yet?
(send 'help' to listproc will get you going).
To come back to Cor's suggestion: this is not so much about
collecting info, but about compiling it into FAQ format....and I hope
Cor realizes the amount of work involved in that....;-)) But that
also raises the question about maintaining the IR FAQ itself. Anyone
involved working on that one lately? Cor's results should be
part of it IMO.
Another solution could be that each of us makes a separate HTML page
with personal recommendations, linked to a central page at Cor's or
my site (or both for that matter, redundancy is good for HTML
searchers). Some basic format in that page would be welcome, but not
neccessary. A separate page about practical recommendations is a
minimum requirement IMO. The link could be the index page of that
homepage, but it should clearly show the recommendation page.
But, I realize this is on the opposite end of the
'spreading-centralizing' scale, with the FAQ on the centralizing end.
Well, I should stop babbling now. 'nuf said. Comments please!
