- Name:  Jim Pipkin

- Profession/Study:  Recent graduate from the University of Minnesota (USA) 
in Aerospace Engineering.  Would like to find a job designing space 
hardware or airplanes, although my Dad keeps saying airships (i.e. the 
Hindenberg) are the future.  I usually just smile and nod when he starts 
talking about them.  : )

- Country:  USA

- Personal history of photography:  Started out about 12 years ago when my 
Dad gave me a Canon Snappy (fixed focus!) point and shot camera.  I taught 
myself photography by reading books and many, MANY rolls of trail and 
error.  Worked on the school yearbook for several years.  In college a job 
at University Relations shooting portraits and basketball games continued 
the learning process.  Only about a year ago did I finally take a 
photography class.  Currently, Iím working part time at a portrait studio 
while I look for a ěreal job.î

- Preferred subjects:  Landscapes, birds (and other wildlife when I can 
find them), portraits of friends, the stars and sky.  Basically anything 
that catches my eye.

- Materials (film, filters, paper, chemistry):  I mainly use Kodak 
materials.  For B&W I shoot Tmax 100 and 400, develop in D-76, and print on 
Polymax.  For IR Iíve been experimenting with both HIE and Konica with a 
red 25A filter.  I recently tried an opaque 87A filter that produces some 
interesting effects.  (Iíll post more about that soon.)    

- Format (35mm/medium format/large format): In 35mm I use a Nikon FE and 
FM2n and an old Canonnette rangefinder.  I also have a Yashica-D TLR for 
medium format, great camera!

- Other strange hobbies:  Astrophotography and telescope building.  Really 
makes the neighbors wonder what youíre doing out in the driveway at 2AM.
