Re: HIE optimum developer
I'm not offering this as a cure for bubbles, but it's what I did
Saturday with no troubles from bubbles:
My bathroom (er... ah, DARKroom, that is) runs a little warm, so the
times are pretty short. I used the TMax RS instructions from the IR
FAQ and adjusted to match:
TMax RS 1:9 for 8 mins at 80F. Agitation was 3 sharp taps straight
down on the counter, followed by 30 seconds of constant total
inversion and 1/4 twist, one invert/twist per second. End with 3
sharp taps on the counter. From then on, 5 inversions/twists every 30
seconds followed by 3 sharp taps on the counter.
3 minute water rinse, constant flushing.
5 minute fix in Kodak Fixer. Same agitation pattern as for
development.
I'm out of Hypo Clear, so I did a really long rinse after this.
1 minute in Photo-Flo, no squeege, hang dry.
All of this was done in a Jobo single-reel tank with the room lights
on. I didn't have any problems with fogging or bubble dots. The TMax
RS was mixed with distilled water, as were all of the chemicals that
were used. The rinses were done with good ol' City of Austin water
(spring fed). I'm not sure of the mineral content of water here, but
if anyone knows, please post it.
Tom
