Well, the 'like-everyone-else' attitude would never have gotten me so
deep into infrared-photography in the first place....;-))

As to the why: my non-photo 'Net life' takes place in the
4x4/Offroad community; and the large generic OffRoad Mailinglist is
also handled manually. I figured that if someone can handle about
1500(!) subscribers this way, year after year, *I* certainly can
with a much smaller mailinglist. And it does add to the quality,
also combined with the fact that only subscribers can post.
FWIW: the bio-invitation also originates from that list; and the
recently started Toyota Land Cruiser list is handled idem dito.
I wasn't sure it would work on this list (I know of no other photo list
that does so), but I think I proved the opposite. And it's also not
something you can do later on, you have to do it right from the
start. Glad I did!

Not sure if it was you or someone else who mentioned it before, but
it seems HIE has an overall resistance against proper scanning,
right?
Any of us who went deep in vain, trying to get a direct neg scan the
way it looked on paper?
I few months back I bought an old Microtek 1850 slide scanner....but if
this HIE scanning is a compromise at best, I might better skip the
neg-copying hassle I had in mind, and only use it for normal slides.
Mmm....how do the HIE slides work in this regard btw?
Which one of the (rare) HIE slide shooters among us have scanned
their slides in succession, and with success?
