With an effective filmspeed (with #25 red filter) of maybe EI 8 to 12,
a tripod is necessary, especially if you're using a medium format
camera and need some depth of field. After all, 1/60 at f:5.6 is
about all the film will do!

Regarding shipping, the film is nowhere near as sensitive to improper
handling as is HIE.

By the way, I have found an excellent way to steady the camera with a
monopod sufficiently that slow shutter sppeds can be used. Tou put
a simple tilt-head (like the one on Bogen monopods) on the monopod, then set
the tilt angle so the monopod head and camera, when level, have the monopod
leg hitting the ground well forward of your feet. Then you lean into the
pod and camera, making yourself the second and third legs of an imaginary
tripod. This works especially well with TLR's and other cameras with
groundglass focusing. I find that I can hold still, with exhaling before
exposing, down to 1/4 second this way with a TLR.

Best of luck!

Ed
