I just got off the phone with the local photo dealer I thought had
cautioned me against ever refreezing film and claimed that a wasted
roll was suffering from the effects of refreezing. The dealer denies
having said not to refreeze. (So it may have been his partner, who
has a much greater tendency to say what he thinks is politic under the
circumstances, as opposed to what he knows to be fact. The partner
has really misled me a couple of times, the dealer himself, never.)
The dealer says that the only caveat he can think of in this context
is that if film has been damaged by excessive heat while it was
thawed, refreezing can only prevent further damage--not cure any that
already has occurred. Well, obviously.

So now I'm sorry I threw out those three rolls of HIE.
