I can only speak for my Gossen Sixtomat Digital (the tiniest digital
(non-flash) meter in the Gossen program).
For a TTF reading (Trough The Filter) I dial in 400 ASA, and this holds up quite well,
even with the opaque filters. The EI equivalent with #87C (+5 stops) is
bang on with 12 ASA.
Note that even with ordinary red filters you most likely have to dial
in 400 ASA instead of the 200 that is often recommended for TTL
readings, simply because inboard camera meters are less sensitive to
red light than external meters.
Nice thing about this Gossen: it has a sliding dome for incident
vs reflective light metering. Yet there is even more room for a second
slide-over contraption; any kind of filter could fit inside this
sliding rail, and make for an instant add-on filter.
