I don't mind if they laugh....it doesn't make them IR experts....8-))
The meter might not be designed for an accurate IR reading without
compensation/recalibration, but it sure does read IR. Such a
sharp-cut IR block filter don't even exist to cut out IR entirely
without affecting the deep red colors.
And hey, since when do we trust official rep's?....;-))
Also, from the German mag FotoMagazin 8/95, the recommended ASA
settings for Konica/Kodak, the Heliopan RG 715 filter (88A) and
three different generations of cameras:
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
Non-AF generation:
Canon AE-1/A-1
Minolta X-300/500/700
Olympus OM-Series
Nikon F-301/FA/F3
Pentax Super A/LX
ASA: 160/800
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
Focus assist generation:
Canon T80
Olympus OM 30
Pentax ME Super F
Nikon F3 AF
ASA: 250/1250
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
AF generation:
EOS
Minolta AF/Dynax
Nikon F801/50/70/90/4 (latter with partial and matrix metering)
ASA: 400/2000
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
These numbers are based on various IR workshops.
FWIW: the current Heliopan brochure uses the same pictures as are
shown in this FotoMagazin article.
I really wonder whether those Minolta rep's ever had an opaque
filter in their hands. It wouldn't suprise me if they think about
heat if one mentions IR.
PS: If you speak to them again, ask if they already include a warning
note about the pre-installed (pre-cut) databack on the non-databack
7si/9xi....;-))
