Mmm....to add some confusion: the relative amount of IR incident
light will increase due to the lower angle of the sun, yet the amount
of IR reflective light will decrease for lack of foliage....8-)) 
Yet the latter is countered in case of snow, snow reflects the full 
spectrum....
