I'm wondering if you don't have something over there similar to the
system here.  In Maryland (as in most other states) one can ask for a
book not available in the local library.  The libraries in the state are
searched and if found, the book is sent to the asking library, where the
book can be checked out.  I can do my own searches through the Internet.

The only down side is that it can take up to two months to find out that
the book is not available - not such a big deal when compared to the
prospect of not being able to ever get ahold of the book.  This is how I
got my fingers on the 1978 edition.  The library should always be
people's first spot to check.
