Speaking of computers and photography (I'm not quite 30, but my first one
was a TRS-80 Model I with NO possibility of video nuthin') there's an
experiment I wanted to try. I've been futzing around with a CCD imager
on one of our optics benches, and realized it's response goes well up into
(possibly past) the Kodak HIE range.

Just for grins I stuck a 150mm 4x5 lens in front of it and took a picture
of all of us lab rats. That got me to thinking, though: I wonder how well
it would approximate the look and feel of IR films if a visible blocker
was stuck in front of the lens. Using this system outdoors to preview
scenes isn't really likely (it's a 10lb CCD head with a controller, a
liquid cooling system, and about 50lb of other junk), but I wonder if the
pictures would show the "shark-eye" effect.

On a totally different note, has anyone done any hand-colored IR? If so
could anyone upload some to the gallery? I'm thinking of trying it out
(my first real try at hand-coloring), but I'd like to see what other people
are doing, too.

Tom
