Hi Dan,
Just a thought, check the leading and trailing edges of the shutter
curtain, there could be something stuck on it (like a hair, been there,
done that) that is protruding into the slit, resulting in a shadow cast
on the film as you describe. If this is the case, the shadow would be
more distict at high shutter speeds, and virtually invisible at lower
speeds (ie > 1/125 sec)
The other possibility is a hair across and infront of the film plane.
Shadows thus cast would be sharper at small apertures, and can be
invisible at larger apertures depending on how far infront of the film
plane it is. Being narrower at one and than the other can be explained by
both cases.
In anycase, if the above "was" true, the guilty hair may have fallen out
since the last time you inspected the camera, and the next rolls may look
normal.
My $0.03 worth (Canadian pennies, = $.02 US!)
Cheers,
Tom
