These lenses are very expensive to buy. They use Quartz elements.
Basically, normal optical glass cuts wavelenghts at around 320nm. The
Quartz glass cuts down around the 250nm mark. So you are not getting a lot
more for the hell of a lot more money.
I like the (typical) camera manufacturer jargon... "allow UV rays to pass
virtually unimpeded". The "UV band goes down to 10nm. Mind you, UV down
the scale that far has to be man made, as the far UV (UVC) is blocked by
(what's left of) the earths atmosphere.
