Hi all,

I've been lurking as a digest-reader for a month or so, and now I finally
have the time to say hello.
My name is Neil Giordano. I am an editor at DoubleTake magazine published
out of the Center for Documentary Studies at Duke University in North
Carolina -- we're a "documentary" magazine, which makes us hard to
describe, but as a quick summary, we're equal parts literary (fiction,
poetry, reportage, etc.) and documentary photography. I work on a number of
things at the magazine including fiction and some photography. I am also a
book editor (DoubleTake has a new imprint with WW Norton -- many great
photography books-- keep your eyes open for them!!). Check out our web page
if you're interested (URL is below).

I try to keep my equipment, film and chemistry fairly simple. For IR, I
work mostly with Kodak HIE. I develop almost exclusively with D-76, but
I've used T-Max and Technidol a few times for some applications. I shoot
with Nikon 35mm's -- an FG-20 and an 8008 -- with 50, 35-105, and 20mm
lenses. In the past year I purchased a Pentax 6x7 (105mm lens) for portrait
work -- for fun, I shot a few rolls of Konica IR, but I wasn't too
impressed with the results. For filters I've used a #25 and a polarizer.
Having read the list lately, I'm going to buy a #87C and I hope to soon
experiment with the new-ish Ilford IR film.

I've used IR mostly with landscapes. I first experimented with it in
Colorado in 1994 and was immediately hooked. I have about 5-10 images that
I'm happy with, and hope to have a web page soon to show them (by the way,
I'm very impressed with the photos in the Infrared Gallery).

Glad to be here. I have one suggestion for the list: if you post something
technical, please try to elaborate and be specific, especially with
abbreviations and acronyms and product names. What might seem obvious to
you is not to some of us. Thanks. See you all on the list.
