I photographed a model recently in front of a beautifully textured gray
background, which also came out nearly white in the prints! There was no
sign of the dye pattern on the background at all. (This was my first
roll of HIE).

At the same time, a light gray drape in the picture came out dark black!
The values are drastically different from the conventional
black-and-white images I took at the same time, under identical lighting
conditions.

The model's skin tone, however was gorgeous.

Interested to hear how those bears come out.
