Hello to you all, and thanks to Willem for putting me on the list.
I've just got on the list, so I'd better introduce myself.
I'm Paul. I live in Leeds, Yorkshire, England, and work at the
Metropolitan University as a Network technician.
I started to learn about photography when my father passed on my
Grandfather's Kodak Retinette 1B to me. The point-and-shoot went in the
bin and i've never looked back. That must have been 10 years ago now.
I now mainly use Pentax 35mm gear, but have recently bought a Yashicamat
EM to get into MF - Had I known you can't get Kodak HIE in 120 format, I
would have bought a 4x5 instead!
I mainly shoot architecture and landscapes, and have a bit of a passion
for standing stones/tumulii/graves. I'm hopefully off to Callanish on the
Isle of Lewis in March, so I can't wait for that. Callanish is one of
the best examples of standing stones in the UK, by the way.
At least once a year I try to get to Scotland to go hill-walking, and if
I get there in February, do a bit of ice climbing. Of course the cameras
go with me and I usually get some superbly snowy mountain pictures.
I usually shoot on Kodak HIE, and use the Tetenal reversal kit to make
them into transparencies - yes, that's right , I don't have a darkroom.
Just don't rub my nose in it!
"Other strange hobbies": While i'm not working, sleeping, or shooting
pictures, I enjoy listening to and playing Traditional Scottish and Irish
music. I play wood flute and button accordeon. I also cycle and walk a
lot, but that's not too strange.
I found out about the list after posting in rec.photo.darkroom, and
Willem mailed me inviting me to join the list.

Right on with business.
1)
I understand that the Konica IR film is available in 120. Are any other
IR films available in 120 ?
What are the results like with the Konica film - are they more like Kodak
HIE or more like Ilford SFX ?
2)
Can someone give me some tips on metering to get a better hit rate ? I
understand that skin and foliage will reflect more IR so you must
compensate accordingly. I usually rate Kodak HIE at ISO 400 and meter
TTL. Then place a cokin red filter over the lens and bracket a stop both
ways. I find it a bit hit and miss....
Hear from you all soon,

Live as if you may die tomorrow",
Paul
