Hey doc, are you a buyer or creator or both?

I have managed to sell some house portraits made with IR. I offered my best
print, archivally processed on an 11x14 paper (but using not quite all of
it), partially toned in a limited edition of two. I tried shooting about 30
houses, making up proofs and showing them. I sold 4, 1 at 175, 2 at 150,
and 1 at 100. I should mention that this is Milwaukee and is very
conservative. Many people here have never bought a piece of original art
and not a few believe that it is conceptually impossible for photography to
be art. Hopefully this summer I'll have the best available on-line and try
someplace else. I got the idea from a single shot I did while shooting for
myself. These shots are too weird, abstract or psychedelic here. I took one
of a Victorian house here to have something a little more straight forward
to people. It came out really well, I left a note at the house and about
three months later the lawyer lady who lived there gave me a call. She came
over, I asked 225, alas, like all others she wanted a deal and I sold it
based on a proof for 175. The response from the follow-up was
dissapointing. I'm not the greatest salesman, though. I've never really
been able to market my personal work, what I consider "art". I'd be
interested in knowing what other "non-full-time artists" have sold.

But if you are a buyer doc, why don't you tell us what you've already bought?

Peter
