Since the bulk loader is designed to allow daylight loading of normal
films, I'm wondering if it won't be more trouble than necessary for
loading in the dark?

I've bulk loaded 35mm film by simply marking the desired length of film on
the darkroom counter top with tape. You then turn out the lights, open
the box of film, measure the proper length using the tape markers on the
bench, cut the film, put the film roll away, and spool the cut film
however you want. This has the added advantage that only the film leader
if fogged rather than both ends.

I would suggest that if you try this, you attach a film clip or something
to hold the free end of the film spool though. That way you have two
hands to measure and cut with. It seems to me that this approach might be
easier than trying to mess with the bulk loader mechanism in the dark.
