Dye Sublimation

The "sublimation" in a dye-sublimation printer refers to the fact that the
image is fromed when the dye (a solid) in the form of a ribbon, is super
heated to a gaseous state, without going through the intermediate liquid
state, thus is sublimated. Dye sublimation is the closest thing to a "real "
photographic image, and in most cases (with a good dye sub printer) you can't
tell with the naked eye that it has been generated by a computer. I seldom
use my darkroom any more, and do most of my printing, color and B&W in the
comfort and convenience of my office with my trusty Kodak XLS 8600 dye
sublimation printer. Hop this clears things up a little;
Marty
