How about a Canon EOS-1N? Or, for a beginner, a Canon EOS Rebel-G? Or
any
good modern 35mm SLR? Or, for the manual focus die-hard, a Canon T-90?
I do not have an autofocus camera myself, but if I did not have an
investment
in two Canon FD bodies (T-90 and AT-1) plus a bagful of expensive
lenses, I
would buy AF for myself. I personally like Canon. I love the user
interface
on the T-90, which makes the Zone system user-friendly, and also allows
full
manual or full auto-exposure control. I also like Canon's lenses,
especially
their "L" series. I am tempted to get an EOS body just for the 24mm tilt
and
shift lens. Everyones needs are different. As a teacher, I would help my
students to choose a camera based on their own needs and budget. For
action
shots with long lenses, I consider AF highly desirable, if not a must.
Why
turn our backs on new technology? Sure students should learn the basics
first,
but you don't need a basic camera to learn the basics.
