The sensitivity curves show considerably greater response to light in
the area around 400nm than in the IR--a broad, relatively flat range
extending from below 700 to above 850nm.  The sensitivity does drop
off somewhat below 350nm, but it remains more responsive down to the
bottom of the chart (at 250nm or so, depending on the chart) than it
is in the IR range.  Older charts show less sensitivity (but still
approximately equal to that in the IR range) and more ragged
sensitivity as they enter the UV range, but that may be an artifact of
testing that has been corrected in the current version, as shown in
the data sheet on Kodak's web site.  I also notice that the older data
used HIE processed in D-19, while the current curves are made with
D-76, but I don't believe this should affect the film's spectral
sensitivity.

So yes, it appears that you could use HIE for at least some UV work.
