I do know of people making zone plates themselves, though I would think
that most would purchase them commercially. An explanation of
diffraction can be found at
http://www.underware.com/imo/fresnel/fresnel.htm, although they are
talking about fresnel zone plates. I've been thinking of getting a few
to play with, so in the not too distant future I'll do it. It should
complement the pinhole images I have on my Web site.
