Hi all, I have always had the same concerns about my film when traveling
through airports even though I know the likelihood of fogging is low. I make
it a habit to carry all my E6 (Fuji - clear plastic film canisters) and
infrared film in clear ziploc bags and ask that they be handchecked when I
got through the x-ray checkpoint. I have never yet been refused. I
frequently carry over 20 rolls. I was a little concerned the first time I
transported infrared due to the black film canisters and the fact I did not
want anyone to attempt to open them for inspection, however, no one seems to
pay that much attention to them. I don't like to pack my exposed film in my
luggage because I am told the level of x-ray used for luggage is higher than
that used at the checkpoints. Also due to past bad experience with lost
luggage, I prefer to keep my exposed film with me on the plane. Keep in mind
my experience is with U.S. airports only. I have heard it may be more of a
problem outside the U.S.
The bottom line is you probably don't have to worry at all if you decide to
send your film through with your luggage, but I still feel better carrying it
with me.
