There have been numerous tests in the past few years that will soften
your fears. As long as you are not carrying the high speed films (over
EI1000), you'll not have any trouble, as I mentioned before, in the US.
I believe that there are applicable laws in the UK, but perhaps someone
on the other side of the pond could respond authoritatively. This is
because, by law, they are not allowed to crank up the x-rays beyond a
certain point. If they can't see, they'll ask you to open your luggage.
