You probably cannot do IR space photography from the ground.

As NASA puts it in http://sofia.arc.nasa.gov/
	Most infrared radiation from astronomical objects
	which never reaches the ground is detectable from
	the lower stratosphere.
	
They don't say how much is visible from the ground, but in order to
do scientific astrophotography they are putting a 2.5 meter telescope
into a specially-modified 747.
