Every photographer has his own personal preference to the way he meters.
TTl, hand held- incident, reflective or spot reflective, educated guess,
all are a means to achieving a "proper" exposure for the image you are
creating. They all work fine, you need use the method that works best for
you. Tests have to be done on each camera and meter used. You will find
differences in shutter speeds and meter readings between different bodies
and meters, calibrate them before your tests. Don't fall in the trap of
reading about one way of doing something and thinking that is the "right"
way. The "right" way is any method you use that produces the images you
want to create.
