I doubt whether Wayde Allen's suggestion for splitting 70mm IR film would
work, particularly the B&W roll from Kodak. This stuff is ultra sensitive.
Not just to light but to any infrared waves from any source. I tried
loading cassettes in what I thought was a completely dark darkroom, only to
later discover that all of the IR roll of 150' was fogged when I went to
develop my exposures. I tested "unexposed" strips of film from this roll and
found all of it fogged, so it didn't get fogged during my shooting. BTW I
was using a Hasselblad 70mm back. The next roll of IR was unloaded in the
dark and using a changing bag. This time there was no fogging. I understand
that if you allow a portion of the roll such as the leading end to be exposed
to light, it will fog the entire roll, or most of it. I can't personally
verify this, but the cost of a single roll of 150' of Kodak 70mm IR b&w film
is sufficient to discourage me from testing this out. You really need to be
carefull when removing this roll of film from its metal container. What
might be light-proof (dark) for regaular pan film may not be safe for IR
film. GSD
