I'm also in the doubters camp on this one, though I do know that some Kodak
35mm film, LPD4 specifically, had a more oval shape to the sprocket holes.
LPD4 is, or was, a direct positive high contrast film on a tough as nails,
mylar like base. It came in 150ft lengths. You could not tear the film. It
had to be cut. It was great for multi-image use except for the sprocket
holes; they wouldn't fit in pin-registered mounts. But..., enough with the
trivia.
