pressure plate problems

Hi, friends!

Some weeks ago we had  rather lengthy discussions about the faint light
line on my first HIE negatives. Everybody will recall all the arguments
about the origin of this line. I m working with HIE  for about  6 weeks
(I guess about 12 rolls) and Im convinced Ive found the problemmaker!  

Carefully looking at the pressure plate of my Nikon F801 (in US 8008)  I
saw a slightly matt area running from left to right corresponding with
the position and the width of the faint line on the negative. Normally
the pressure plate is shining black and reflects the light that passes
through the filmbase. At this particular area the reflection must be
less resulting in a slight light line on the negative (less density!). I
have successfully tried to wipe out the matt area (carefully
polishing!). 

The whole pressureplate is shining again and the problem of the faint
light line has gone!  It could have been a bit of dirt, that was
gradually spread out by the hundreds of films that were exposed by this
camera. I now believe that spots, lines, ghostly images etc. could be
caused by the pressure plate and I would like to advice everybody to
have a carefull look at the plate. Off course some plates are not
suitable  for IR at all, but that is another problem!
