bio & pinhole IR
- From: knatre@xxxxxxxx (Nathan A Sanborn)

Hi all,
I've been lurking on this list for about a week or so...
First, my bio:
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
- - Name: Nathan Sanborn
- - Profession/Study: Undergraduate student (philosophy)... only 5 more
weeks to my degree!
- - Country: USA
- - Personal history of photography: I got my first camera about 3 years
ago, and within 3 months had built a darkroom... I manage to make enough
money freelancing to (almost) support my habit, mostly through
portraiture, and copy work for local artists. Also do "fine art" (i use
that term loosely!!!) for personal enjoyment and local exhibition.
- - preferred subjects: abstracts from landscape and urban landscape,
nudes, (and most anything else, really!)
- - materials (film, filters, paper, chemistry): I'll try anything
once.... currently I am shooting lots of TMX, Tech Pan and Fuji Sensia in
35mm, and 4x5 trix pinhole. I mix almost all solutions from scratch
chemicals, often modifying/experimenting with the formulas, mostly
because I enjoy it. I also use Rodinal (I *buy* that....)
- - format (35mm/medium format/large format): 35mm, Canon and Nikon
cameras, 4x5 pinhole.
- - Other strange hobbies: Strange? hmmm. dunno... like ot sail, ski and
hike. Also play guitar, work in wood and read...
- - How did you find out about this list: WJ's homepage.
- - Expand on anything photographic you like: Currently building a 4x5
camera from scratch... also, I am delving into the wonderful world of alt
proc (gum and ziatype), since I will soon be loosing acess to my
darkroom.

And now, for my first question.
As mentioned in my bio, I do 4x5 pinhole work, and I am considering 4x5
infrared pinhole work. My greatest concern (perhaps obviously?) is
infrared fogging from my home-made pinhole cameras. Does anyone have any
experience with 4x5 pinhole and infrared-proofing (sic) a camera? Mostly
my cameras have been built from heavy (corrugated) cardboard, built to
hold a standard 4x5 film-holder. I have been considering lining the box
with aluminum foil/mylar and black paper (to reduce internal
reflections), but would like to minimze the number of sheets of 4x5 I
ruin before I get it right! ;)
Thanks in advance!
Regards,
Nathan Sanborn
