On the subject of Aaron's posting (UK billion = 10^12; US = 10^9):
I'm pretty quick to put my hand up when I'm wrong (often), but just for my
self-respect can I say that UK newspapers, everybody I know with whom I deal
in large numbers, and my Oxford dictionary all reckon a UK billion is one
thousand million. Still, as you say, let's stick to indices.
Edging my way towards a genuine photographic question:
Why the lack of an anti-halation backing on Kodak IR film? Is it a creative
decision on their part, recognising that the eerie glowing highlights are an
important feature of this medium? Or is there a more practical reason?
