Read your message in whole about some problems with processing & printing tech
pan. I have never used it for IR effects, as it only goes to 690 nm. If I rember
correctly, human eyesight is supposed to be sensitive to 700nm (roughly - correct me
if I am wrong here), so tech pan does not even go into the near IR.

Most B&W films however only go to maybe 630 to 650 nm, so tech pan is usefull
for detecting red, pale skin tones, etc. It's red sensitivity is very usefull in
astro-photography as hydrogen nebula radiate light in the red end ofthe spectrum -
something that most normal B&W films cannot detect. Tech pan also ahs uses ranging
from reproduction to microscope photography and more.

The speed of tech pan is dependant on the developer used. For extremely fine
grian and reporduction work, technidol is perfered and will give you an ISO of 25.
For portraits, landscapes, etc, Rodinal, Xtol, D76, etc can be used and give you an
average asa of 50 to 100. For astro-photography and other scientific applications,
HC-110, D-19 and even Dektol for asa of 100 to 200.

For IR effects, you will not get too much more than you would with any other
standard B&W filma nd a red filter. I just purchased some Afga APX S 200, so I cannot
say about it, but so far the only two B&W filsm for IR effects are HIE and Konica 750.
Still, outside of IR use, tech pan can be an amazing film to work with.
