- - Name: Larry Bullis

- - Profession/Study: 1) Photographer (generalist... includes most areas
from Archaeology to Zoology, Architecture to Opera, Design). 2)
Photojournalist (magazine, editorial). 3) Fine artist. 4) College
teacher (Photography, Art). 5) Author (photographic, interdisciplinary).
 6) Other (Seems I've been on too many roofs lately, mostly mine. Also,
I helped some friends with their cafe as a short order cook last summer).

- - Country: USA

- - Personal history of photography: Began in 1963, studied in workshops
with Minor White. Frequent dinners with Imogen Cunningham. Went to
school, got degrees - 3, all in photo. Worked in color labs for what
seemed forever. Started teaching in 1972, continued intermittently ever
since. Free lanced for a long time (whew!). Maintained full - service
color/bw lab at home for many years. Profile: Low.

- - preferred subjects: Subjects are not very important. For me, a subject
is just an opportunity. I tend not to "take pictures of things" but
prefer to make photographs. If it's not one subject, then it's another.

- - materials (film, filters, paper, chemistry): Standard silver products,
color and bw, and homemade ( Alt-Processes, especially cyanotype). Will
modify any process to suit my needs; eg. developing E6 films by
inspection in split developers. Have also worked with photo-etching and
photosilkscreen.

- - format (35mm/medium format/large format): All, from 35mm - 11x14 view
camera. I make lots of my own cameras; have been doing pinhole
photography since 1975. Also modify cameras by throwing away perfectly
good lenses and replacing them with magnifiers, etc. Especially enjoy
using Astigmats (not ANAstigmats).

- - Other strange hobbies: Sea Kayaking, amateur philosophy, esoteric
psychology.

- - How did you find out about this list: Can't remember where.

- - Expand on anything photographic you like: I've decided that there's no
reason not to share absolutely everything I've learned in the 35 years
I've been doing this. If I get too agressive about it, please just tell
me to shut up.

webpage is in development but there's probably enough to make it worth a
look:
