Some basics Please

Could someone please expand on some basic knowledge about shooting IR. Actually
I'm really looking for film and aperture settings I would prefer not to get any
more black rolls of film. My first attempt was a disaster resulting in no, zip,
nada, try again, sorry there we're no pictures. I was using a minolta 5000i
with a 28-105 zoom wratten #87 shooting at 125 f/11 in the full sun. I sure
wish I knew what happened are there any clues out there?
