There are a couple of places you can find on the Web where you can find basic
information.  Of course, I'll suggest my Web site (in the signature at the bottom).

I would think that EI 250 with a #87 filter would result in severe underexposure.  I
would suggest starting with a #25 filter, set your camera at EI 250, meter through
the filter, and fire away.  On the same roll, replace the red filter with the #87,
open up about 6 stops, and bracket a couple of stops either way from there.  When
using a #87 filter, I meter with a #25 filter and open up 4 stops (your mileage will
vary).
