I'll let other people print my negatives. I can ask them to redo that.
But once a decision has been made about developing the film, making
changes are tough, radical, and risky.
With me, it is not even a question of them screwing it up, really. It is
just that I do certain things for very definite and specific reasons. I
choose developers very carefully for certain qualities I want to achieve.
One developer does not necessarily equal another, and it's not a matter
of one being "better" and the other being "worse". Labs, on the other
hand, choose generic processes for reasons of convenience. They may do
it perfectly, and I may still not like it, and it will be too late.
If mistakes are to be made, I want to be the one who makes them. And I
do, believe me.
Glad I'm not the only one.
