I've found that successful infrared photography depends on some
understanding of the scientific principles involved in exposing the film,
such as what an infrared filter does, and what infrared "radiation" is. If
the nature of such things is grossly distorted by guesswork and
near-medieval ignorance that is presented in a book as if it was good
quality information, then anyone basing their technique on that faulty
information is likely to find it harder to get the images onto the film.
When such blatant factual distortions are encountered, they need to be
highlighted. As far as I can recall, there were no such errors in Joe
Paduano's book. The fact that he did not attempt to give a lot of technical
information is not relevant to the valid criticisms of the Airey book.
