Sorry to hear what has happened, but it does say that on the tubs,
but at least now you know what the film cassette look like ! I know
of a few people who have never seen it. Also I bet you wont do it
again.
Please note however that although it says the same thing on the
tubs of the new EIR this is NOT the case! I had mine sitting around
out if its film tub in one of our cool darkrooms for a couple of weeks
before I was able to get it processed. I lab then rung me up in a
panic to say that the film would be ruined as it had been taken out
of the tub. On discovering this they then rushed into the darkroom
so it could sit in the dark until they processed it, what they thought
they would gain from this is beyond me as fogged film stays fogged
film!
The film came out perfectly O.K. with no fogging as EIR has a anti
halation backing unlike the HIE/HSI. remember that it is not IR light
that causes the problem but the film structure. I am sure this is all
part of the massive Kodak misinformation campaign :-)

Hi Everybody,
Ever wondered about that little warning on the lid of the HIE (and
EIR) can that says "Open cannister, load and unload film in
complete
darkness", or something like that.
I thought that was just to make you feel important for using IR
film,
and decided that maybe it wasn't necessary.
BIG MISTAKE.
I loaded a roll of HIE in the open boot of a car (shaded sunlight),
thinking it would be ok.The leader was exposed for about 10
seconds.
Upon processing, I discovered that frames 1-10 were completely
black,
10-20 suffered from black/grey bands every 1-2cm (still
unprintable),
20-25 slight grey banding (almost printable) and 25-36 OK.
So, I have learned my lesson. Luckily it was only HIE, not EIR
($$).
Alan.
