We've just been having a spate of HIE pinholes, and seriously wonder if
it has anything to do with processing at all. Using Rodinal (1+50) and
half-strength stop bath with careful agitation, we got our worst crop
ever - up to 4 on some frames.
Incidentally, Rodinal can give plenty of contrast at 1+25, and the
grain is crisp and clear - exactly why we use it!
Conventional films given exactly the same treatment show no flaws at
all.
Maybe the Great Yellow God is getting sloppy?
Our current solution is the very non-purist one of removing the black
spots with the clone tool in Photoshop! Scan a print, retouch on screen,
print a contact neg on an inkjet, reprint. Or, print out a direct
positive on watercolour paper. Still problems of permanency here though.
Better ideas anyone?
