I don't correct for focus shift using HSI 4x5, but then I shoot outside in
daylight and stop down to f 22 or 32 to get some depth of field. My
practice is to wrap my film holders in aluminum foil to ensure there are no
light leaks, even though my Lisko holders are supposed to be IR safe. I
don't believe my bellows are IR safe. So I put the piece of aluminum foil
I have taken from the film holder and place it over the top of the bellows.
 Cumbersome, but it works.

The major points are not to take the dark slide all the way out when
shooting and to be carefull of the film surface while loading and unloading
the holders. I use gloves to load the film and the same to unload. I don't
have the problem with HIE, but if I touch HSI film with my bare hands it is
marked.
