This falls in the conjecture department, but I doubt there will be any
problem with the flame---though the color is blue, there should still be
enough IR to record.

As to the balancing of the ambient light, it can be done. 
Unfortunately, figuring out the ratio as with conventional film with a
meter might take a little experimentation, but there will be SOME level
of ambient "light" which won't overwhelm the flame.  It may take a roll
or two to determine this.

Don't burn yourself.  We don't want to do any medical IR photos on list
members<g>.
