- - Name:

Ian Wilson.

- - Profession/Study:

Systems Software Engineer.

- - Country:

Cambridge, England.

- - Personal history of photography:

Started with Praktica MTL3 in 1978. Rather rapidly moved on to a Canon
A-1 in 1979 (!), and have stayed with Canon FD (manual focus) ever
since. In the meantime, I have acquired a second A-1 body and a T90 (my
favourite); I have also collected a comprehensive set of lenses over the
same period. I discovered dark-room work while I was a student in the
late '70s, and bought an enlarger (a Philips PCS2000 with EL-Nikkor
lenses) as soon as I had a house of my own to use it. I concentrated
almost exculsively in Black & White "snapshot" photography until 3 years
ago when I joined a local Camera Club. Since then, I have discovered
the joys of making big prints (12" x 16" is my default size now), and
also the ease of making colour hand-prints using a NOVA deep tank.
Infra-red photography is something I am just starting, and it is because
I want to learn that I have joined this forum. Another recent interest
is medium-format photography, and I have recently bought a Mamiya C220.

- - Preferred subjects:

General pictorial; animals and plants; candid portraiture (especially my
children); close-up and macro; landscape; industrial and architectural.
Most things apart from glamour, in fact!

- - Materials (film, filters, paper, chemistry):

Black & White: Ilford Delta 100 and Delta 400 (often pushed to 1600),
developed in Ilfotec LC-29; printed on Ilford Multigrade-IV RC or
Jessop's VC RC using Ilford Multigrade developer. Colour Print: Fuji
Reala (a superb film) and SG-400, trade developed (the only thing I
don't do myself); printed on Fuju Super-FA paper using Tetenal
Professional-PK RA4 chemistry.  Colour Slide: Fuji Sensia 100 and 400;
tried Velvia, but can't seem to get on with it! Infra-Red: tried Ilford
SFX-200, but wasn't too impressed; moved onto Kodak HIE - more
impressive, but I am still finding my feet; development and printing as
with B&W abve. My IR filter is a Hoya R72; all others are Cokin "P"
series (of which I have a collection of about 15) which are capable of
being used on all of my lenses.

- - Format (35mm/medium format/large format):

35mm (Canon FD); medium format (Mamiya C220).

- - Other strange hobbies:

What can you mean?

- - How did you find out about this list:

By searching for IR information on the WWW, there are many pointers to
the FAQ. From there, it was a short step to the mailing list.

- - In case you already have your own IR-Gallery on the web, please
state the URL/address: (I will then also add your site to the overview
of IR-Galleries on my homepage!....think of the fame you can get....:-))

One day... I'd like an A3 scanner so that I can continue to print at
12x16, however, and I can't afford it at the moment!

- - Expand on anything photographic you like:

Probably all said above. Infra red appeals to me, partly because of the
stunning effects which can be achieved, but also because of the
unpredictability of the medium. It seems to me an area which "gut feel"
and experience count for much more than other branches of the hobby.
For this reason, I'm particularly interested to find out how other
people get on, and to learn from their successes/mistakes.

- -- Ian.
