I personally wouldn't work with the Ilford warm-tone paper, especially
since you're going to tone the print. My opinion only.
There is no magic to the toning process. Remember that selenium toning
works progressively from the dark tones to light and sepia tones
progressively from light to dark. So, with sepia you can effectively create
a split tone effect by shortening the bleach time. Pull the print from the
bleach when you see that the areas you want toned warm have been affected
but before the lower tones have changed. Rinse thoroughly and then place in
the toner. You will notice that the highlights will be warm but the darker
tones will remain unaffected. If you want to then use selenium, go ahead but
the effect is pretty subtle. I've gotten great results with this technique
on Ilford Multigrade IV Fiber and Zone VI Multigrade. You can also start
with selenium, limit the time and then sepia tone. Agfa Multicontrast
Classic is the choice if you want a paper that works dramatically with
selenium. The darkest tones seem to split off and create a deep purple zone.
You can see that result in some of Keith Carter's prints.

Have fun,
