I've been using this method for about a year and have not had dust/dirt
problems. Also have not had problems of film rubbing against filter and
scratching. I do suggest, however, that you do not use a gelatin filter
unless you can replace it after each roll. I had one shatter on the third
roll. Try something like WJ's polyester 87c filter which is what I now have.
Can't speak to auto cameras as I use an elderly mechanical Fujica and a
hand held Gossen meter.
