OK, I'm a little late in catching up to my email, but the following might
be of interest...

A couple of years ago I heard (or read) somewhere that this one
photographer puts his 120 size film in a fanny-pack and wears it around his
waist, with a loose-fitting sweater or jacket over it.  Since it's film and
plastic, the metal detectors don't pick it up.  And it therefore doesn't go
through any X-Rays.

BTW, I've had HIE go through X-Rays with no noticable effects.  But then
again, maybe I just never noticed it.
