Pushing EIR
I pushed some EIR recently and got some good results. The film was
rated at an EI of 640 (a one and two-thirds stop push) and was exposed
by metering through a Tiffen #12 yellow filter using my camera's TTL
metering. The film was then developed in Kodak's E-6 chemicals by
increasing the 1st developer time by 100% (the normal time is 6 min.
so a 100% increase gave me a 1st developer time of 12 minutes) All
the other chemical steps after the first developer were not altered.
The pictures were of a Native American Pow-Wow Dance festival, held
inside of a large gymnasium.
It was interesting to note that the pictures taken without a flash had
a blue cast to them, while the pictures taken with a flash had EIR's
"normal color palet." I am guessing that the gym's light's didn't
emit very much IR radiation; hence the pictures taken without a flash
were bluish.
The only real mistake I made was not loading this film in the dark.
When you push EIR film, you should load it in the dark, because the
slight IR light leakage through the canister's felt lips is evident.
I had about 4 frames damaged, with red streaks across them,
undoubtably due to IR light leakage. I also saw a red mark from where
the tape (that attatches the film to the spool)was removed from the
film. Probably caused by static electricity.
Hope someone finds this information useful.
