I think because one gets a flood of light instead of a trickle. I tested
the camera with Tmax 400 yesterday with lens off and light shining into
body for various times up to 12 minutes. Sure enough, I duplicated what I
saw on the original negs. Called Leica and am shipping the body back today.
Hope it isn't in repair for another 7 weeks! By the way, I think using
infrared film to test for leaks makes good sense after seeing the results
on Tmax; Leak traces with infrared really bloomed compared to weak traces
on Tmax.
