Re: EIR and butterflies

Dear Ken & Laurie,
Well I loaded up my Om2s with Kodak EIR film a yellow #12 filter but I only saw
a few lepidoptera, a cabbage white, and few others that I could not get close
enough
to photograph. I took nine photos, though but these were flies and wasps.
I would like to get a photo on EIR of the Gulf Fritellary butterfly that I could
contrast
to my photo on HIE Black and White Infrared which is on my page at
http://www.netcom.com/~flzhgn/ir.htm
Ultraviolet photography might even be more interesting.
I was wondering if I put some film into my camera with the Wratten #87
gelatin "black" filter if I would get sufficient UV transmittance to make some
exposures.
I think I mentioned this once before and was told that the Wratten #87 does not
transmit
Ultraviolet light. One of my old photography books (Field Photgraphy by
Blacker) gives
me the impression that the #87 gelatin filter does transmit UV, so much so that
special
precautions (Wratten Yellow #12 filter) should be taken to guarantee the
exposure
is being made by Infrared light rather than Ultraviolet light (in the case of
infrared luminescence photography with electronic flash illumination). However
the book is pretty old and for all I know the formulation for the #87 filter may
have changed over the decades or I might be misinterpreting the text or graphs.
