  Hi All,

Thanks to all for the flood of visits to my photo-page &
the comments on my IR shots. The general consensus seems
to be that they are a bit on the dark side. Of all the
speculated causes for this, I think the main ones are that
I am just beginning in b&w printing and they may well be
printed a bit darker than optimal. Also, I do my digital
stuff on a Mac w/ a Trinitron monitor and I have noticed
on several WinTel machines that much of my work comes
across much darker than it looks when I'm doing it. I have
no idea how to work on my machine to get a flat, weak file
that will then look "right" on another monitor -- I just have
my screen to use as a reference.

As mentioned, I've only been printing for a few months now
and have yet to even find the contrast filters, etc - so I
have to shoot everything "straight". It seems that IR is
intrinsicly blacks (like sky & water) and whitish greys --
and I have found several to be very tough to hold the light
back from the light areas while still getting the rich black
sky & water, which I like. If those contrast filters alleviate
this sort of thing, I'd get a set post haste :) My darkroom
setup is still quite rudimentary -- I need several items,
like a recessed lensboard which will allow me to get to the
aperture ring, a timer better than my wristwatch second hand
which would permit more freedom in dodging, etc. I do think
that the webimages come across darker than the actual prints,
though. So far I have been rather pleased w/ the degree of
dark sky/light highlight areas -- much more so than ones where the sky i	(ooops) ..where the sky is less dark.

I think the negs are OK, though I'm no expert on reading a negative.
	I've been exposing strong sunlit at f16@x/60th & 1/30th w/#25
red -- the suggestion & a stop extra. Of course, I've only shot
2 rolls of HIE & 3 of the Konica, so I have much to learn still :)

Again, thanks for the dozen or so new visitors :)

							Bill
