Dear George, Mike and others,
I believe that the cause of the halo is due to
the fact that Kodak's HIE has no anti-halation layer on the film. Since said a
'Major Burst', this would imply that it is brighter than the average burst
(which wouldn't show up the Halo as distinctly). I suspect that you would get
exactly the same effect if you photographed any bright light source using HIE
(e.g. the sun, or a light bulb).
This effect is one of the attractions of HIE. Konica's IR film, and practically
all B&W emulsions today, have an anti-halation layer so you don't get this
effect.
regards
Peter

Baseball game, where the foliage in the background showed the Wood Effect.

I got that also and would like to hear input too. I sent the image to a number
of people who were on my postcard list (see my Web page) because I liked the
effect so much.
